These last couple days have been such a heartbreaking-devastating-stressful-whirlwind-of-emotions and the only thing pulling me through is knowing #HoustonStrong. My family and I were lucky to get out before Hurricane Harvey hit, in fact, before we even realized the severity of the threat which means we didn’t prepare nearly enough. We have no idea the status of our homes, our cars or our belongings. Against all, the important part is, we are safe, comfortable, and surrounded by people we love. That’s more than a lot of other Houstonians can say right now – including my extended family, friends, colleagues, my community, and my fave man, my grandfather.
In short. This sucks. And worse days lie ahead.
But I refuse to waste more time feeling helpless and shedding tears. And you shouldn’t either. Instead, let’s use that energy to DO SOMETHING. Donate, get involved, help gather the necessities everyone needs, let’s figure out how we plan to fix our city that we love and come back stronger. Here are some opportunities I found to start us off and I’m sure there will be many more in the coming days and months ahead of us.
As for my kitty Milo, I heard he’s chillin’ like a villain with enough food and water to sustain him until one of my flights I’ve booked (and rebooked) doesn’t get canceled and can get me back home. And the moment I do, you better believe there will be enough love for not only him, but the entire city of Houston. Together, we rebuild. Together, we get stronger. If anyone can do this, it’s us.
As for you, Harvey. You are the worst man I’ve ever had to deal with. Boy bye.
