Five months ago I annouced that I was shifting gears to focus on a lifelong dream of writing a book which was followed by outpour of support from all of you – thank you, thank you, thank you! For those of you who’ve been following along on Snapchat, you’ve seen firsthand the ups and downs of my book journey in writing a novella (no, jk, for sure it’s gonna be a novel).
I had a timeline of milestones in mind at the starting line: ten chapters by the end of the year. I guess it doesn’t really matter if you have the perfect storyline, the amazing characters who enhance the plot and the never seen before setting that would make you think twice of how if actually came to be because even with everything combined it doesn’t as easily unfold into words. Because truthfully I’m only on chapter 5. And getting here was no easy feat. Maybe I’ve overthought every word… twice… but either way I discovered that setting chapter goals is unrealistic so I’ve started focusing on word count and just aiming to see progression.
Last week I hit 7,000 words out of the potentially let’s say 80K words of a final outcome! That’s 15 pages on a word document, single-spaced, size 12 font. That’s officially enough words on pages to start submitting the initial idea to publishers. Say whattttt!!! I mean am I anywhere near there? Heck no. But it’s an undescribleable feeling to be passionaltely writing something you would think the world could one day enjoy while taking the train to work or reading in bed on a rainy day and it’s that much closer to becoming a reality which makes all the hard work worth it #goalsbro.
I also mentioned that I would look into Wattpad to share chapters of the book – which I haven’t completely nixed but I’m no longer sure if thats a path I want to take. Ya I know, I’m super protective and to date, not a soul has even read a single sentence of said book so that describes my sentiments… I can’t really justify it except that writers are super sensitive with their art and IDK, fear of rejection? Either way, I just know I need to think through social sharing a bit longer but a preview in some capacity is definitely in the near future.
Until then, I’ll get back to my Carrie Bradshaw ways and wishing all of you a lovely holiday season xo
