During the summer, my makeup routine falls tenfold: moisturizer + sunblock (skin cancer is real, friends) + a few other non-melting makeup to rock that perfect, effortless, natural beauty summer makeup look everyone kills for. Yup, the “no makeup” but actually wearing makeup look. Ca mon, we aren’t savages here to go
Anything overdone looks glaringly obvious in the bright sunlight. Plus the moment you step outside in the 90+ degree weather, its bound to start sweating off and leave streaky lines across your face. Yup, that should scare you enough to put down the foundation and toss away eye liners, lipsticks and gloss into the back of your makeup bag. Instead here are a few staples that I turn to during the next couple months to support the “I just woke up this pretty and played in the sun” look.
Start with sunblock, always. And don’t forget your ears and your neck. And NO, that will not make your makeup sweat off and yes you can find nonscented, non-greasy sunblocks. We aren’t 5 anymore where Hawaiian Tropic is your only sunblock option.
Dab a creamy concealer on any blemishes and redness – blend with your fingers!! This is my go-to move, any time, any day, any season
Add cream blush onto cheeks for the just jogged 10 miles on the beach kinda look
Untradditionally use powder bronzer: dust on cheeks, across your forehead and on top of your eyelids to look like a kiss from the sun
Use a lip balm and a neutral liner on your lips, fill as wanted
A touch of waterproof mascara and viola!
In the end, it does take effort to pull off the effortless look, no?
