What are your strengths?
That dreaded interview question every working girl has heard once in their interviewing life. Lucky for you, now there is an entire assessment that can tell you: StrengthsFinder 2.0. I took the test and, let me just say, the questions were absurd. Things like which do you like better: cupcakes or cardio?
Then I got my results that defined my skills and I thought it was even more absurd. My top 5 traits were nothing that I thought my skills actually were. I felt blind-sighted. Like I didn’t know myself! For example, I used to really pride myself as a strong communicator, but that wasn’t anywhere on my list. Instead I got a bunch of words that apparently defined my talents and it took time to realize these attributes really outline not only HOW I work, but the style of work that I respond best to and drives me:
strategic || A distinct way of thinking, which YES, I’ve always been told I held a unique perspective about the world. Apparently this trait is all about the details which makes it more about the vision
command || AKA a nice way to say bossypants. OK, jk, it means I like to share my opinion and goals. It also means I’m ready to confront and I just don’t feel like I am… I think about confrontation and how to avoid it a million times. But sure I like being in the driver seat and can speak pretty frankly.
positivity || Now this I can deal with. This is like the best strength out there: quick to smile, light-hearted, people want to be around you, someone who celebrates EVERY achievement. Who wants to celebrate that I got positivity as a trait? HH?
futuristic || I never realized how much the future fascinated me until this “test”. I am a dreamer, I always look to how can the world be better, I’m a hopeless. That’s why working in the innovative tech space is wonderful for me. It fuels my imagination. Naturally this is my favorite trait about myself!
maximizer || This one is probably second worst because it doesn’t make sense. Helping people succeed or something. Maybe when I’m in a manager position I’ll see this more or maybe Strengthsfinder needed filler traits for me and just assigned this. I’m leaning toward the latter.
Any working girl looking to get the most out of their career, this is a good guide to show what your skills are and, in respect, what skills you lack so you can find the perfect team. On that note, if you have the skills of woo or activator, you are a compatible worker with me – HOLLA BACK.
See you in the future,
