The only “Con” I have ever been to was on the streets of New York with millions dressed as santas. Yup, SantaCon. So when I heard about BeautyCon, I was ready to saddle up ladies and head into the world of Gen C Beauties (“connected” because aren’t we really?) with loud makeup, blue hair and a statement style. This past weekend, we smoozed and mingled at the first ever Texas rendition of BeautyCon!
So it’s fair to say, this is your first rodeo, huh BeautyCon?
Ya, that would make sense.
Imagine a sea of fashion and beauty influencers, with surprise sightings every corner you turned from Kandee Johnson (aka my fave! Taught me a trick or two on how to contour and cover them dark circles since 2014), the ever more gorgeous in real life Courtney Kerr, and stud Mac Daddy and more and more and many many more! There was no shortage of fashionistas and beauty babes.
Some of our favorite brands even showed up to play including Birchbox, Tarte Cosmetics and NYX! Imagine the joy of getting to meet Birchbox’s social manager, Juliette Dallas-Feeny, with the best snapchats ever live and in person. I’ve only ever known her through the words of my BFFL who happens to be her roomie but she truly exist peeps! BeautyCon proved it to be true.
So naturally you would think this is my perfect habitat. Ya, about that… I don’t know what I was expecting- certainly not life size emojis, which made an appearance – but what I got was Black Friday long lines full of underage Beauty Nerds wanting to purchase 50% off makeup or score free drag queen lip glitter… which embarrassingly sits on my dresser. I just didn’t realize I signed up for little girls screaming every time they saw Graveyard Girl smile or the fact that I would be standing around for hours and hours only to get to the front and not be able to speak to anyone important #networkfail or that I wouldn’t get to sit in any of the panels just because of the sheer volume of people and noise control. Clearly, I envisioned more vendors…. or like… a smaller venue to at least make it seem like more vendors…. I guess I’m hypercritical because on the flip, its my job as a PR Girl to be able to think through everything, especially when it comes to an event that large!!!
After what seemed too long (like an hour of our precious lives), we left, and wrapped up BeautyCon with the best tacos in Dallas and bestie bonding – which I mean made everything so much better! But hey, BeautyCon, I’d give you one more chance just because I really really like yalls decor, just like, hire a PR Girl next time and pay her with life size emojis. I’m sure she’d accept the offer 😉
I’ll be waiting for that phone call,
