It’s hot outside. And naturally that only means one thing… less clothes. You can’t take a walk in the park without seeing (gawking) the many shirtless men with their sweaty runner bods. These next couple months every human will inevitably fall into the fitness trap as so many different crazes take over. I tried a couple which led to mixed feelings, soreness everywhere, followed by a cute pink drink with an umbrella to ease the pain.
SoulCycle – So I’m not a biker (seriously, one time in the third grade I broke the gear from my bike so I wouldn’t have to ride that damn thing. And then my dad fixed it. I cried.) and I don’t like that “biker-sore-aftermath” that followed when I tried this. BUT I heard so many good things that I had to try it once before I left NY and overall, not a good experience. I’m a tiny girl and felt the bikes were unaccommodating to my size and height even after being adjusted (my third grade bike was so much better!). Because it was so uncomfortable, I was not able to hit, jib and jab as everyone else… oh ya, and my shoes got stuck.
Kettlebell Kickboxing – I am also not a kick boxer but I like to try new things, especially when created by the martial arts, and then later I regret most of the times. This was not one of those moments for the most part. The first class is free so there was no reason not to try it out. It was something different and challenging, just not something I could get a membership to and do on the regular. But unlike Soul(ripping)Cycle, the instructor was superrr patient with the new bees and made sure she showed and corrected our formation, which a girl can appreciate! Oh and you burn 1,000 cals in one hour… ya. Winner.
Barry’s Bootcamp – Ok, so if there is something I am it’s that I am a runner who is always trying to improve and be stronger and this felt right. It was difficult and challenging and something I would recommend to everyone (at least once). I enjoyed pushing myself but it was long, really really long, so brace yourself. After 40 minutes, I was ready to leave. Only tip, don’t do it after July 4th. #brutal but tots worth it
