The smokey residues from last night’s not-15-seconds-rooftop-fireworks celebrating young USA’s birthday lingers in the air as everyone grudgingly gets to work on what feels like a Monday and to everyone’s surprise is a Thursday. Celebrating the 4th of July in NY, marking 236 years of America, felt so very patriotic with the Statue of Liberty gleaming down upon us. Sparklers, check. Red-white-and-blue, check. Declaration of (my) Independence – check. I have been here now for almost ten months (crazy!!) and time has literally flown by. Coming to New York was like signing my own little Declaration of Independence – of being financially independent and stable, of growing into the person I wanted to be socially and in my career, and mostly making a name for myself. Of course there’s still ways to go – but it was nice to have a full day to celebrate and reflect on history while moving forward…
Happy birthday USA, you relatively young, imperfect nation full of hopes and dreams. Thank you for a federal paid holiday of relaxing in the sun, sipping on lemonade, and enjoying great company. xoxo
