This past week was NY’s first summer heat wave (thankfully I put in my AC unit in my window couple weeks before. I now live in a constant fear that I will come home one day and the unit will have fallen out the window and caused havoc.) Needless to say, I was ecstatic. 97 degrees…FINALLY! All I wanted to do now was splash into a pool and play Marco Polo.
But the sad truth is the city has no swimming pool. There’s the Hudson River which is dirty but clean enough for Dolphins to live in and there is the Central Park Public Pool…. just typing that makes me think of kids pee…and then there are beaches far far away that take couple hours to get too. I could just jump into every other fountain I see, and trust me sometimes I am so tempted but I think that’s illegal. Of course, can’t leave out that there is an indoor pool at my gym, but I would have to swim laps instead of enjoy a freeze pop and lemonade as I sit back and bask away in the sun.

Sometimes when I see people wearing bathing suits I question where they are going… until last weekend when I discovered first hand how people tan in the city. All hail Central Park’s Sheep Meadow (or any park) and any rooftop to lay out with no pool. It’s pretty weird but on a hot Summer Saturday, that’s the place to be in your two piece. Oh you know just another NYC thing. But I am determined to find a pool in the city, that doesn’t cost $50 bucks to get into because it’s on top of some fancy hotel… until then Central Park it is with its urban patch of green and sea of blankets… Stay tuned!
xoxo
