Being an intern only two months ago, I have a pocket full of internship advice starting with finding the right summer internship, also known as the summership.
I read a blog post today on one of my favorite PR girl blogs, NYC PR Girls, listing their top ten tips to find a summer internship which inspired me to share my secret ingredient that helped land my internship, perfect in time for all the summer-hunters! Whether you are a college student or a graduating senior, there’s nothing wrong with interning first and just like NYC PR Girl, I also interned after graduating before getting my full time offer.
Internships can be very valuable to getting inside the communications world… so how do you get one?
I did everything listed in that blog PLUS ONE: Apply to different offices of the same company. Hey, it’s called dream company for a reason and each office most likely has a different hiring manager / HR / recruiter so they aren’t all getting your resume…which also means higher chances to intern for the company you love but that also means you should be ready to pack your bags and move to someplace blue like Seattle.
I applied to EIGHT different offices of the same company.
Interviewed at FOUR.
Got the internship for ONE.
With that, don’t be afraid to apply everywhere for the perfect PR summership because that just makes you one step closer on your way to becoming a PR Girl!
