Welcome back you might say …
I know, I know, I have been missing in action for a week now… But only because it’s that time of the month. No. Not THAT time but the time to move out my current apartment and find a new place in New York City.
I remember I was able to arrange an apartment for an entire school year back in Austin and it took one day over e-mail while I was studying abroad, with limited access to e-mail.
Let me try to explain the process here… You google, then you arrange a time to go see the place, you go look, you think about it, you sign the checks and the papers, you move in. MINUS not really. You google and you have to make sure it is in a good location in your budget, which with everything squeezed on a 13 mile island, you would think everything is a good location… but no – it can be too high, too low, no transportation options available, too west, too east, too scary, too dark, too old, and on and on and on…
Then you have to make sure there is no “broker’s fee.” What’s that you ask? Oh. It’s how you get robbed but instead of not knowing of the burglar you just hand over your checkbook to the realtor and say, “go shopping, buy whatever you like.” The apartment already costs 12 million per person per month – let’s just add a 15% fee on top of that. Or you can skip this and opt to go the long way…
Guess which way I am going.
So now you find a place after walking a gazillion miles looking at your options. Turn around rate: 24 hours. Within 24 hours, you decide, you sign, your credit gets checked and then bada boom – you’re in. BUT some times even less time which becomes a big fat competition against everyone who is going for the limited no fee apartment, the race to the checkbook. Not to mention, you have to make 40x the rent and if you do not your guarantor has to make 80x the rent and EVERYONE has to pass this credit check BS and submit every single government financial paper all in one night.
IN CONCLUSION… STRESSED IN THE CITY because in two weeks I become HOME(less and) ALONE 3 (that’s the one in NY right?) Cannot wait to be done with this and have a pretty little place that I can officially can start calling my home ♥ (…and do fun stuff like decorate! Thinking way too far ahead…)
