Working in PR, I am constantly reading and monitoring the news. If something seems relevant to my client, I look up the author, see their previous articles and also look them up on LinkedIn (amongst various PR tools) to see their official title and past experiences that they highlight. This is helpful especially when a client is coming out with something newsworthy, like, I don’t know, an event.
In fact… I do this a lot.
So I get pretty familiar with names and the face is kind of a blur of hair, eyes, nose, skin and lips (though I’ve seen their picture on their twitter maybe once or twice). In fact, today at the client’s event, I got to see all the reporters who I only knew through words on a screen. And every time I thought, “I pictured you differently”
And almost always, I thought of them as a journalist robot – frantically typing all day. Lo and behold, journalists and bloggers and media are just humans… Nothing scary about that!
